Interview with the Debutant Author Mr. SHUBHAN BALVALLY

Mr Shubhan Balvally is a debutant writer and this is his first story. He is a Member of FILM WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF INDIA, where he has also registered his story titled ARIHANT-REVENGE PAR EXCELLENCE. Currently, he is working as a Freelance Films Manager for a company known as WILLIAMS LEA TAG WORLDWIDE. So basically, he is from the world of Advertising and Films, having started his career in Feature Films, T.V Serials, Documentaries and then eventually settling down in the Advertising Industry. He lives and works in the city of Mumbai, India.

His book ARIHANT-REVENGE PAR EXCELLENCE is a Fiction story based in Mumbai in the near future. This is a very unique story that has an eclectic mix of Patriotism, Action, Romance, and thrilling moments which make up for a taut read!

So, today I managed to have a conversation with him.

 

 

Me: Congratulations on your first book, Arihant: Revenge Par Excellence. As we already know that you belong to the world of advertising and films, do you google yourself?

Mr. Balvally: Yes. Sometimes! Out of sheer curiosity! Nothing more.

Me: Next question for you sir, What is your writing Kryptonite?

Mr. Balvally: The ‘POWER OF IMAGINATION’ has always been my biggest kryptonite, in writing all my Novels. And I thank God for giving me this special power. One can improve their writing skills or grammar by attending Webinars and other special classes. Or by listening to famous writers. But no one in this world can teach you to imagine. It has to be in-born. One has to get that terrific ‘GERM OF AN IDEA’ and then the ‘POWER OF IMAGINATION’ to elaborate that idea in a novel way, which also matches a majority of the society’s sensibilities.

Me: Obviously, the power of imagination is indeed bliss. So do you view writing as a kind of spiritual practice?

Mr. Balvally: Not exactly. But yes, I do go into some different world, where I can clearly visualize my story! If some people may want to call it a spiritual or a divine experience, so be it!

Me: What is the most difficult part of your artistic process?

Mr. Balvally: Actually, for me, the most difficult part is getting hold of that germ of an idea to write the story. Because I constantly strive to write different stories, which have never been read before. I hate writing ‘run-of-the-mill’ stories. If you read the ARIHANT Trilogy or the new novel that I am writing, the stories are very unique, which have never been heard before. So sometimes, it becomes very difficult for me to get that different, ‘Out-of-the-World’ idea. And once I discover that idea, the rest becomes a relatively smooth affair.

Me: That sounds amazing. What did you edit out of this book?

Mr. Balvally: I actually didn’t edit out anything from ARIHANT – REVENGE PAR EXCELLENCE. In fact, I added certain chapters, which improved the quality of the narrative by leaps and bounds!

Me: Whoa! I am out of words. My last question for you is, What advice do you have for writers?

Mr. Balvally: I would like to advise my fellow writers to read and re-read their work several times, before publishing it. Not only to check language and grammar but also to check the narrative flow. And I’m saying this from my personal experience, that sometimes one does get great ideas to improve the story in your re-reading sessions. One can also make their friends and relatives read the story and get their honest comments, provided they have the same sensibilities as the writer. In my personal experience, some of them have given some good suggestions, which helped me improvise my storyline. Again reading lots of meaningful books and watching a lot of good movies also helps in improving one’s sensibilities.
