Bad habits are negative behaviors that many people struggle with. Here are five common bad habits that many people have:
Filler Words While Speaking:
Using words like “umm,” “uhh,” and “like” frequently while talking can make it harder for others to understand you. Try to pause and think before speaking to use the right words.
Skipping Breakfast:
Not eating breakfast can be bad for your health. Make time for a quick and nutritious morning meal, like eggs and whole wheat toast or yogurt.
Playing with Hair:
Some people play with their hair when they’re nervous or bored. It’s not good for your hair. To stop this, find something else to fidget with, like a stress ball.
Nail Biting:
Nail biting isn’t a great habit. It might be a sign of a bigger issue. Keep your nails short and consider using special coatings or wearing gloves to help you quit.
Avoiding Eye Contact:
Avoiding eye contact while talking can make you seem disinterested or unsure. Making eye contact is important for effective communication and shows confidence.
Remember, we all have habits we want to change. Working on them can make a positive difference in our lives.
My bad is talking with my hands. I have swatted people on accident from doing this.
Yeah I do some of these. The eye contact thing weirds me out. I don’t like looking someone in the eye and would prefer they didn’t do it to me either.
I agree, there are times I don’t do eye contact unless we talking business. But for casual conversation, I don’t coz I assume the other doesn’t like it.
Oh no. these are totally right. You did your research. We really need to work on breakfast!!!
I’m terrible with eye contact – and I don’t know why! I have to force myself to maintain. Thanks for sharing, you made me more aware!
Thanks for pointing these things out! We may not be knowledgable of these things until someone acknowledges them. Good points, I do have poor eye contact and that I have to really get myself the hang of doing! It just make things awkward among colleagues haha
I learned at a young age to look people in the eye when speaking to them. It is hard when you don’t have confidence in your self or what you are saying to do it but sometimes you have to force yourself to just look them in the eye and say what’s on your mind.
You nailed it with the first two habits. I am horrible when it comes to saying ‘like’. I always skip breakfast. You have reminded me that I need to work on these. Thanks for the inspiration!
I am guilty of many. I dont like direct eye contact in certain moments and I am working on the umms in my speech too!
Guilty with Avoiding eye contact haha, I can’t explain why but its hard for me to looks for someone that will last 3 seconds.
Because I’m not a morning person, I’m always tempted to skip breakfast but I’ve made more of a conscious effort to make it a part of my daily routine. I tend to gravitate towards smoothies most mornings or grab a protein bar if I don’t feel like busting out the blender.
i used to bite my nails as a kid, it took me ages to stop!
You covered ALL the bases. These really are so common. Almost everyone I know does at least one of these.
These are totally true and I am guilty of many especially, skipping my breakfast.
I am guilty of skipping breakfast. I rush into the day the minute I wake up in the morning. I try to get stuff done so I could have some relax time later in the day. It is usually at 2 pm that I remember I never sat down to have breakfast!
I’m definitely guilty of some of these bad habits. If only they weren’t so hard to break!
Very true. Using filler words is a common problem for even very articulate people. It takes practice and mindfully focusing on it to stop the habit 🙂
I am guilty of doing 4 out of 5. That’s not good. I’ll have to work on that.
I’m guilty with all these.. Especially the umm uhb and like while talking.. It’s like grabbing what you’re about to say.
I’ve been one to not offer eye contact when talking to someone. It’s amazing how some of these are so common.
Biting nails and skipping breakfast are definite bad habits of mine. I have worked on not biting my nails, but not getting breakfast is still very difficult
I am definitely a little bit awkward sometimes and find myself avoiding eye contact. This was a really helpful read!
My bad habit is Avoiding eye contact or i would say its because of lack of confidence.
Ugh its so true! I def tend to skip breakfast more than I should!
I used to bite my nails a lot until I was probably around 25. I finally managed to get rid of this habit when I started painting my nails with shellac. I don’t think that skipping breakfast is a bad thing, I think it;s just a myth. I never eat breakfast and I am healthy and full of energy.
I’m a nail biter. It comes and goes with stress, but right now their down to nubs. I’ve tried to get better about it over the years, but it’s a tough habit to break.
I just skipped out on breakfast this morning. And now I’m starving. Go figure. Maybe one day I’ll learn.
saying the word “like” is mine too!! but also eye contact – it makes me nervous!
hahaha I only have one …. but it’s not a bad habit. I feel so much better without breakfast. Actually I do eat breakfast, but around 6pm. Meaning of the word is breaking the fast…
Very interesting topics to read on and knowing and correcting ourselves. Sometimes knowingly or unknowingly we harm ourselves.
I bit my nails and i can not overcome it!!! 🙁
I am guilty with number 1 I think.. The rest is a no no for me.
For me, I pick my lips. It’s hard to quit!
I definitely have a few of these that I need to work on.
Wow..this post is really amazing..i totally agree with you..even though i have these bad habbits too..especially of skiping breakfast and biting nails when i am depressed..
