The Anthology of the Best Short Stories from Spain

The Anthology of the Best Short Stories from Spain is an exciting collection that explores the richness and variety of classical Spanish writing.

This is my first encounter with Spanish classic literature but it wasn’t as exciting as I was expecting.

This book is a compilation of fifteen stories from the oeuvre of writers like Pedro Antonio De Alarcon, Serafin Estebanez Calderon, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, Gustavo Adolfo Becquer, Jose Selgas and Fernan Caballero among others, this anthology showcases a wide spectrum of themes including evil and supernatural, compassion, romance, power, and masculinity. This assortment of tales will be a treasure trove for beginners. If you want to dive into classic Spanish literature, it is better to start with anthologies.

My personal favorite among them was The Tall Woman by Pedro Antonio De Alarcon, Compassion by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, White Butterfly by Jose Selgas.

The Parents I met

In a rain soaked afternoon I picked up this book which is not something I usually read, and to be honest I was not expecting it would be that much interesting. I wasn’t expecting it as a fun read but it was a really intriguing candid conversation narrative between Mansi Zaveri and Celeb’s parents that delves into parenting responsibility in a fun way.

The one question that always comes with being a parent is, ‘Am I doing this right?’. Yet, the love we feel for our child is irrevocable. Parenting is probably the only relationship we’ll never walk out of. We are in it forever. But today, somewhere in the rigmarole of life and material achievements, we forget these precious moments and start chasing that first place on the victory stand for our kids.Featuring interviews conducted by Mansi Zaveri, the founder of the award-winning parenting platform Kidsstoppress.com, The Parents I Met is an anthology of her authentic conversations with parents of successful individuals who made it big against all odds.

I found some quotes that make us ponder over. The book focuses on the little incidents in their lives which are evocative enough to infuse curiosity into a reader’s heart. The culmination of small incidents results in big learning not only for the child but parents as well and I am astounded, it’s really fantastic to read about those parents’ adaptability power.

While teaching their little one these parents were also learnt to accept the situation that makes a huge difference in life. In candid conversation they share some crispy anecdotes which are powerful and profound not only in parenting but for children also as they serve the potential resilience, hard working teachings and make us realise how we should curve our life to reach the goal.

It was exciting and an encouraging read to know their growing days, the little things that make them different from others and make them strong to achieve their dreams.

The Myth of Normal

The Myth of Normal by Gabor Mate is a must read book for all.

It’s that high time to read such books that enlighten us about how our little act can cause lifelong trauma… How a tiny conversation with your kids can be traumatic… We must learn about our own behaviour and take care of the people around us.

This is one astonishing book that taught us to see trauma from a different perspective.
It is time to unveil a new perspective to look at the thing called “normal”. Is the thing called “normal” pushing us closer to potential malignancy? Do we force ourselves to think about everything in a positive way and it causes something internal, something that leads us to a void, who knows, this book helps us understand the bigger pictures of trauma throughout the book with case studies and anecdotes. The way author connected all the forgotten dots of childhood trauma, it’s an incredible work.

Understanding stress from a different perspective.
Is our coping mechanism, feel good, positive thoughts secretly making us unhealthy , suppressing grief and pain management systems making us weaker from inside without knowing. We don’t even know it makes us ill.

Verdict: A must read book for all.
It is best read of the year and I am still reading it .

Then She Was Gone

It was my 73rd book of the year.
Okay it’s a late entry in the Lisa Jewell Lisa Jewell fan community but finally I reached the point. This was the second creepy psychological thriller after Sally Diamond. All the creepy chilling vibe, and very beautiful story telling style, unputdownable atmosphere, everything you need on the weekend is here. It is heartbreaking and leaves you at your most numb moment, tingling vulnerability will touch you on your nape.
What a ravenous plot and at some point you can feel the fragility of life, in some thoughtful evening you might think this book might not be pure fiction!
