Finally, Game of Thrones is over. After 8 years of entertainment, drama, heartbreak, etc finally, it had its last episode aired on May 19, 2019. Game of Thrones had obviously been a great show. Some liked it, some did not. It had a lot of nudity, a lot of sex in it, a lot of heartbreak and a lot of drama but if you had just watched it carefully then you might have noticed some real-life lessons this show taught us. Here are 10 lessons we got to learn from Game of Thrones.
” Some people just aren’t trustworthy“: Littlefinger betrayed Ned Stark, causing him to be executed by King Joffrey.
We all have gone through this phrase so have I. We should think before trusting anyone. This betrayal of Littlefinger in season 1 is very much painful. Ned Stark had been one of my favorites… Phewww!!

There are two sides to every story: Again an important lesson, people you thought were evil in season 1, Game of Thrones might not seem so bad when you understand the reasons behind their actions.
Obviously, in real life, we all meet or go through these sort of phrases.

Straight trees are cut first: Although this was a lesson of Chanakya (an ancient Indian teacher, philosopher-economist, jurist and royal advisor) but in Game of Thrones the first example is Ned Stark. He was an honest and straightforward man but yet he was betrayed and killed.

Always remember Who You Are: A famous dialogue by Tyrion Lannister, “Let me give you some advice, bastard. Never forget what you are, the rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor and it can never be used to hurt you.”
Obviously, we should always remember what we are and who we are.

Learn from your failures: Yes, we have all learned this at some point while growing up but our strong girl Arya Stark teaches this lesson to us very pointedly…!

Try not to take things personally: I learned this lesson in a very hard way. Here in Game of Thrones Lannister teaches us this lovely lesson with his own examples.

Accept your flaws: That is a very big lesson. I remember when I was a kid my mom used to tell this to me. However, Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones teaches us that “Once you have accepted your flaws no one can use them against you”.

Don’t make hasty decisions & don’t be afraid to take a step backward: Stannis Baratheon concluded a horrendous mix-up in season 4 and 5. Indeed, even after his military abandoned him, he chose to attack Winterfell in any case. He had been told that sacrificing his daughter would enable him to win Winterfell regardless. When he confronted another catastrophe, specifically after his wife’s suicide, his brain was jumbled. His basic sense was missing and he took the rushed choice to attack Winterfell with an unmounted armed force. The protectors of Winterfell were all around readied and mounted. Therefore, they squashed Stannis’ unmounted armed force.
In real life too don’t make hasty decisions and even if you do don’t afraid to step back.

LEAVE WELL ALONE: If Theon Greyjoy wouldn’t have ambitiously set out to “conquer the north” in an attempt to gain some recognition from his father, he would not lose his p***s.

Read: Reading is very important. Books broaden a person’s horizons like nothing else. It’s no coincidence that the show’s learned characters, like Tyrion and Sam, are just as valuable as the fighters.

I’ll end it here for now. I guess that was a lot to take in for today. Let me know in comments if I missed out on any.

Hhhhmmmm…..I love love love these, Moni!
Thanks again…
I loved it Moni. Such a nice interpretation and connect with reality. And in addition it brought a smile on my face as I am currently in Croatia and visited Dubrovnik couple of days back and did the Game of Thrones walking tour. And yesterday was in Klis fort near Split where also it was shot.
I am one of the few people on Earth who completely missed the Game of Thrones bandwagon. However, a lot of these quotes seem incredibly true. Awesome perspective on a popular series!
Goodness! You learned a lot from Game of Thrones. What did you think of the season finale?
I think Jon was the ultimate tragic hero! Bran will be a good king as he can see future. Drogon melt my heart though!
I have never watched even a single episode of GOT but it is good to hear that there were so many life lessons you could learn from it.
Wasn’t a big fan of the show myself. Watch a few seasons but it didn’t hold me. I DID give my family our own “words” which my 5 year old can now recite. So, I think there can be inspiration for anyone in this show. Superfan or not.
This was a great show .The life lessons are totally relatable.Loved the way you penned down.
I honestly have never seen an episode of Game of Thrones but these do seem like very good life lessons!
Unlike most people here, I’m not a GOT fan. These life lessons can be useful though.
I should probably watch game of thrones soon. I’m being left behind.
My husband is GoT obsessed! I am not really a fan but I’ve forced myself to watch some lol! These are great life lessons though, we could all learn a thing or two from GOT!
I have never watched the game of thrones but reading your post, I realize I missed something so I will have to watch the movie as soon as possible.Really appreciate you sharing this.
I’ve never seen a single episode of GOT but all my friends are going CRAZY. Part of me in curious – maybe one day I’ll watch it.
Game of Thrones was a fantastic show, with so many lessons and so many words of wisdom. I am kind of sad that it’s over, especially that the ending was…. let’s just say bittersweet. I had expected something else, not a happy ending. It is Game of Thrones after all!
Tyrion will always carry it in his heart!!!
Who knew that Game of Thrones taught people so many good lessons. This is awesome!
I am watching the last episode tonight in the UK. I can’t wait!
There are so many life lessons in GOT, can’t specify all of them. Season 7,episode 4 is my favorite. Love it.
It was a great show and definitely the characters taught us a lot along the way.
I have never seen this show but I like the lessons. I need to learn from my mistakes
Never watched GOT so this isn’t super relevant to me, but looks like you took some things away from it.
Many of these are quite true, especially the not everyone is trustworthy.
I just love this show! These are some great lessons. My favorite character is Tyrion. He kicked butt!
I have never watched Game of Thrones, but love all the life lessons you pointed out! Great post!
Believe it or not, I haven’t watched htis show yet, however, I love the idea behind this post. there is a lesson for everyone.
Some people aren’t trust worthy, don’t we know that’s right?! These wee great points!
Another GoT fan lol. My favourite lesson is Littlefinger’s Chaos monologue…and it is all too true. If you’re smart, you can benefit from chaos, and most people have been doing this for generations. Also, you can become so power drunk that it can literally drive you mad. The wheel has to be broken and it was symbolic that Drogon broke it by incinerating the iron throne.
I loved drogon for that.
My favourite is “straight trees are cut first” so true.
I like this a lot. These characters can seem so out of this world this makes them more human and lets us feel a connection to characters. Also just some good life lessons.
for real! This is so true – I feel like I would have survived then because I would trust NO ONE haha
Love the show. Even visited a few filming locations when in the area. Still don’t understand why the rightful heir to the throne is not on the throne, ugh. Arya is definitely the breakout character and has been for the past few seasons. #NotToday
OMGGGGG! tell me babe are you satisfied with the ending! I’m still furious!
I was utterly disappointed!
Straight trees are cut first. Ouch! I like Tyrian Lannister dialogues. Some of them are being circulated as quotes. It’s like strong bolt quotes.
Watched the first two episodes but I think the decision making is the most important one in here.
Oh yes, totally agree with all these life lessons! I don’t watch GOT, but I can relate to all these. 🙂
I still need to catch up with a few seasons but I have been waiting for the series to end so I can just binge watch them until the end!! I love your perspective through GOT!
It is over.
I don’t watch TV or even Game of Thrones but I have to say that at least 4 of these lessons resonated with me. The most profound of them is accepting your flaws so that no one can use them against you.
Thanks for sharing this 10 lessons you have learned while watching GOT. Honestly I haven’t watch it…I learned that it recently ended because my news feed is flooding with the ending of GOT.. =)
This was such a fun read. I especially love that quote from Tyrion Lannister: “Once you have accepted your flaws no one can use them against you”. So true and something we need to always remember. Thanks for sharing
Never been a fan of GoT but my boyfriend was and he would agree with most of the lessons stated here. And yes, books are very important. Those who read have a bigger advantage than those who don’t.
GoT has reached such a culture icon status now. So many lessons to get from there indeed. A bittersweet ending to the show though
Really great life lessons. I no longer watch game of thrones but this was a very interesting post to read.
I like that you broke down these lessons. I haven’t been following this show, but I have seen the previews.
After reading your post, I’m truly missing out. I’ve heard that Game of Thrones is such an amazing show and I’m definitely going to sit through and watch every single season. Thank you for giving me even more reasons to take the time and watch this iconic show.

No, there are many!
Amazing post. By the way I am a huge fan of GOT …
GAAAAHHHH! I haven’t finished watching the season yet so I had to bookmark this to read for when I’m done. I don’t want to see any spoilers!
This show had a lot of very real and harsh realities presented. People can learn from a lot that took place in that show.
Those were a really good lessongs to learn from. Glad that that were so much shows like this that we could learn life lessons.
Great lessons you got there!..Reality strikes even in fictional movies and i believe its a great way to educate our children to be themselves and to have faith and courage in everything they do.
Okay I didn’t watch it, but I feel like these are lesson we all can learn from! Important lessons!
Great lesson to learn. I think this could be the best way to watch movie. We can take something good from all movie. Great post.
I’ve never watched it but I love this! What amazing life lessons learned, I feel as though I really do need to watch it!
Love this the most …Learn from your failures: Yes, we have all learned this at some point while growing up but our strong girl Arya Stark teaches this lesson to us very pointedly
Loved the littlefinger dialogue: Some people just aren’t trustworthy.
I just loved his character <3 <3
There are so much lessons in it. Tyrion’s words are so great, such a brave and wise character.
I’ve been wanting to start this show
I am glad this show can be “educational” – ha! I have never seen it before but I love watching things that have subtle life lessons involved!
I’m not a fan of GOT but thank you for sharing this post. I hope fans and non-fans wil learn from this life lessons.
I can’t believe on how many lessons you can learn just by understanding the meaning of the show!
I don’t watch Game of Thrones, but these are certainly some valuable lessons people should be mindful of in their everyday lives.
Straight trees are cut first is a first for me to hear/read. I love this interpertation!
Love this, and great timing for the end of the show! There are lessons you can learn about every character in the decisions that they make
There are so many good takeaways with your post . The show was monumental and great to find the key messages in a show
I read some of the books, but never got into the TV show! Im sure many will enjoy these though. People are crazy about GOT!
I haven’t watched this at all. I feel like I’m too far to join the movement
Not a fan of GOT at all however I love the life lessons you’ve gathered here, my fave is: don’t take thinks too personally.
‘Try not to take things personally and accept your flaws’! I absolutely love those tips. It’s nice that you watch movies with a keen eye. Seems I should go watch Game of Thrones too since I haven’t. Ooops!
I am in the millions that never watched, not even one episode. I must confess, after reading the lessons one can learn from this show, I am now curious. I may have to make some time to do this.
I’ve never watch game of thrones but who knows, maybe I’ll start this show soon
These are all great lessons! Makes me want to start the series now!
I never knew there was so much you could learn from GOT!
I am a bit sad Game of Thrones finished. It was so nice watching it and discussing with friends. You life lessons are totally legit. love your approach
Some great lessons to be learned in Game of Thrones. I will have to read more about the Indian philosopher who said straight trees are the first cut. Sounds interesting. And I always love the Tyrion line never forget who you are. Because the world certainly won’t let you forget.
Most of my friends they are fan of Game of thrones and I heard them it was very great movie 🙂 I watch Lucifer 🙂
Thanks for sharing this GoT inspired post to help make our lives a little better when we are searching for those little doses of inspiration to hang on.
I’m part of the 1% who hasn’t watched it but these are really good takeaways!
You couldn’t have said it better! The reading part is my favorite, just a gentle reminder to kick my ass and get to finish the book I have been putting off since yesterday haha
Straight trees are cut first. Man, it can tell a variety of message depending on how you’ll interpret it. A nice quote actually.
Love all of these quotes – I am going to miss GOT
Yes, leave well alone is a VERY good point. Theon learned a hard lesson!
I think I would understand these a bit better had I seen the show, but it definitely sounds like you got a lot out of it.
Great round up from my favorite show. My best quote is from Tyrion Lannister, “Never forget what you are, the rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor and it can never be used to hurt you.”
Although some would say that straight trees are cut first, for me, it’s still best to live an honest life.
This is fascinating, how the characters and their situations contain lessons we can all learn from. I always thought Tyrion and Sam had a lot to teach everyone!
I have still to watch this. I have not watch any of it. I thoroughly enjoyed this post though. The quote Iikes the most was ” Once you’ve accepted your flaws, no can use it against you” that is so true!
Yes, these are some superb lessons. I loved the show, and watched from the beginning. Reading is a big one for me 😉
Thank you for sharing this valuable lesson. I haven’t watch the movie yet, cause I heard there’s a lot 18+ scene. I mean im not underage. But not really interested to watch show that have such scene hahaha
I actually haven’t seen a single episode of GOT but I guess it’s a very nice series. Especially after reading all your intakes.
These life lessons have hit home with me. I need to use them in my liffe. Especially learning from my failures. I haven’t mastered that yet.
These are life lessons which we should always keep in mind. I’ve learned how to do so some time ago. 🙂
To be honest, I never watched a single episode of Game of Thrones lol. But my friends are telling me it was an awesome series.
Very interesting way you drew lessons from game of thrones. Hope to read more lessons from GOT
These are all pretty nice lessons to take in. I love GOT just like the many fans of it. I think it has a good story and great quotes to pick from it.
Love this – I would have never noticed this things. Thanks for comparing life to the GOT – it’s a great read and article.
Although I have not seen a single episode of Game of Thrones, I like motivational topics. These lessons are really good. Shared on twitter.
Given the debacle of last season of game of thrones I think the biggest life lesson is, sometimes you start with a bang but finish with a dud. Life is like that.
I have not watched a single episode of Game of Thrones but after reading your post, I think it is about time that I start watching it. I know, I am a late bloomer, but I just found the motivation to watch it.
I love this motivational post. These are important lessons especially to raise up after failure.
I have never watched Game of Thrones but totally agree with the topics you have shown and everyone should read x
Despite the GOT being my favorite show, i never thought of drawing life lessons from it but you’re right! Great insights and learning, thank you.
These are some fab real life lessons from Game of thrones! All topics are important, especally reading.
Honestly, I have never watch even one episode of this show but I heard a lot of good things from it. I am glad that you learned a lot of important things on watching this show and thank you for sharing this with us.
I don’t watch GOT but I agree with all these life lessons. Reading is so very important and we need to always remember who we are.
Hi Moni. Apparently, I’m one of the few who has not seen a single episode of Game of Thrones. Good lessons either way though!
Never watched this show but the life lessons are so good. It’s fascinating how much someone can learn not only from reading but also from watching their fave show
So many great lessons in this show – So sad that it’s over now!! I love the one you stated about accepting your flaws <3
